Parade of Floats

A historical Parade of Floats portraying some major events that took place during World War II and the foot parade for the multi-sectoral groups were held last April 08, 2016 at Provincial Capitol Compound. Despite the sweltering afternoon sun, members of multi-sectoral groups enthusiastically joined the parade on foot from the Balanga Elementary School to the capitol grounds. The Provincial Capitol was transformed into an open theatre.

The participants made a short dramatization of some historical events, as eager spectators watched, among them aged veterans who became emotional as the re-enactment of past events unfolded before their dimming eyes. Selected Bataenos showed off their theatrical skills as they presented the following: Depicted were the “Alamat ng Bataan” from Samal, “Ang pagkakatatag ng Bataan” from Abucay, “Ang Bataan sa Panahon ng Espanyol” from Dinalupihan, Ang mga Amerikano sa Bataan, “Pangamba ng Digmaan” from the City of Balanga, “Unang Depensa sa Tangway” from Bagac, “Tagumpay ng USSAFE” from Orion, “Mt.Samat lundo ng Kagitingan” from Pilar, “Death march: Malupit ang Digmaan” from Mariveles “Maging tulay ng kapayapaan, kaya mo” from Morong and “Makabagong Bataan” from Limay.

After the re-enactment, the veterans were honoured through a special ceremony led by officials of the Provincial Government of Bataan. Congresswoman Herminia B. Roman gave a welcoming speech and this was followed by the entrance of Foot Parade and Parade of Floats, Governor Albert S. Garcia delivered a message giving tribute to the heroism of the veterans. Pilar Mayor Alicia D. Pizarro then introduced the guest of honor Secretary General Orlando S. Mercado of the Eastern Regional Organization for Public Administration. Similarly, Sec. Gen. Mercado spoke of the priceless contributions of the veterans to the country.

The response of the veterans, on the other hand, were represented by Mr. Cesar V. Aguirre, President of District 2 of the Veterans Federation of the Philippines. In his speech , Mr. Aguirre expressed immense pride for the fallen and surviving veterans, as well as gratitude for the recognition given to them by the community. #bataan
