Officials of Balanga City led by Mayor Raquel Garcia and Vice Mayor Francis Garcia visited last August 18 Sitio Balat, Barangay Tuyo, Balanga, the proposed site for spring development project.

The visit was made to explore the possibility of establishing a water source amid challenges faced by farmers to irrigate their farmlands in Barangay Upper Tuyo. Local farmers had long been wishing for sufficient irrigation system for their farms.

The project is expected to solve water problems earlier raised by farmers who claimed farm produce declined because of lack of irrigation in the area and will benefit more than 100 hectares of plantation for banana, cacao, coconut and other fruit bearing trees.

Local officials are looking into the possibility of identifying main water source and it could be connected to the local folks’ farmlands which are mostly located in upland areas.

“This is crucial to boost the production of agricultural products in Balanga,” notes the neophyte lady Mayor Racquel. The Department of Agriculture will extend technical assistance to the project particularly the Regional Engineering Division and the Provincial Agricultural and Biosystem Division of Bataan.
