Bus firm joins in first hybrid service

Riza A. Moises, president of Genesis Transport Service, Inc., takes pride in having joined many “first things” during the launching of the first hybrid bus service in Bataan last Thursday.

Moises, former writer of the defunct Ministry of Public Information, profusely thanked Bataan Governor Joet Garcia who led the launching ceremony involving a score of Genesis buses that will serve Balanga City-PITX (Parañaque) route on a regular basis, the first of such service introduced for provincial operation.

Moises said Bataan has been at the center of national transformative events. The province has now barely a million population as a result of expanding freeport economic zones.

The hybrid buses operate on cadmium battery which requires recharging after a run down. The engine automatically switches to regular gas fuel when the battery is drained.

“When the issue of capability and range is settled, we will hopefully shift to electric buses and Bataan province will be a major actor in the milestone event for the environment,” Garcia said in a statement.

Garcia said that the need for transport to shift into platforms less dependent on fossil fuel and hence less harmful to the environment is both a global trend and an environmental imperative.

Genesis Transport is a Bataan-based provincial bus company with routes in the province and many points in Manila and Northern Luzon.
