Plans are underway for the proposed launch of the country’s first electric hydrofoil ferry service across Manila Bay, which aims to provide faster, more affordable, and environment-friendly transportation between Manila and Bataan.

The project was discussed during Bataan 2nd District Rep. Abet Garcia recent meeting with officials of the Maritime Industry Authority (MARINA) led by Administrator Sonia Malaluan.

He said the proposed e-ferry service will be designed to be safe, accessible for persons with disabilities (PWDs), affordable, and powered by clean energy.

Once operational, travel time between the Mall of Asia in Pasay City and Bataan is expected to be reduced to about one hour, compared with the current two to three-hour land travel.

Garcia added that the project is expected to significantly reduce transportation costs, with fares projected to become up to 80 percent lower due to the more efficient operation of electric ferries compared with diesel- and gasoline-powered public transport.

MARINA officials expressed optimism over the proposed project and are expected to eorse it to the Department of Transportation for possible funding support under the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program of the agency.
