The Department of the Interior and Local Government (DILG) launched last March 3 the Building Excellence in Service and Transparency (BEST) program to inspire barangay officials and improve performance.
BEST is a performance-based assessment program that gives recognition to a barangay (village) with outstanding accomplishments, effective public service with high degree of accountability.
Abucay Mayor Erik Martel said the BEST program will definitely inspire barangay officials to work hard for their constituents and tender honest public service. A neophyte mayor, Martel was a businessman before he joined politics after being prevailed upon by his father-in-law former Abucay Mayor Liberato Santiago, Jr., more popularly known as “Mayor Pambato.”
