Genesis launches first hybrid provincial bus service in Bataan

The first hybrid bus service for a provincial route was formally launched today in this capital town, marking a pioneering step toward reducing dependence on fossil fuels and minimizing environmental impact in public transportation.

Bataan Governor Joet Garcia led the launching ceremony and announced that the hybrid buses of General Transport Service Inc. will operate regularly on the Balanga City–PITX (Parañaque Integrated Terminal Exchange) route. The service is the first of its kind introduced for provincial bus operations in the country.

Garcia said the hybrid buses represent an initial move toward a broader shift to cleaner transport technology. “When the issue of capability and range is settled, we will hopefully shift to full electric buses and Bataan province will be a major actor in that milestone event for the environment,” he said.

He added that by the time the modern highway and bridge connecting Bataan and Cavite is completed, electric vehicle (EV) buses will likely be in operation.

The governor emphasized that transitioning to less fossil fuel-dependent transport platforms is both a global trend and an environmental imperative.

Genesis Transport, a Bataan-based provincial bus company, operates routes between the province and key destinations in Metro Manila and Northern Luzon. The company’s adoption of hybrid buses signals a significant development in sustainable provincial transport.

Garcia noted that Bataan takes climate issues and environmental protection seriously, citing the province’s history as a site of transformative national projects. These include the country’s first export processing zone in Mariveles in the early 1970s, a major oil refinery in Limay, and the construction of the country’s only nuclear power plant in Morong.
