Look for new fishing ground and identify untapped fishing areas including within existing river system. This is one of the recommended action plans of the Bataan Provincial Government to at least mitigate the tension in the West Philippine Sea during last Thursday’s awareness and education program dubbed “Bayanihang Adhikain, Bayaning Aksiyon para sa Kanlurang Dagat ng Pilipinas.”
Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia said that protecting the WPS is every Filipino’s concern. “There is a need for participation of civil society to protect our WPS,” he said.
Other action plans include: strengthening reserved armed forces, continuous request for fish aggregating device due to its destruction by the Vietnamese.
Implementation of action plans shall enjoin the participation of the Department of the Interior and Local Government, as convenor; Philippine Coast Guard, Department of National Defense, and Department of Information and Communication Technology.
Belina Herman, DILG Bataan director, said in a statement that the local government units are the frontliners in this endeavor, so they are the ones implementing coastal management programs including fisherfolk support.
