Mariveles launches Healthy School Setting, over 8,000 pupils to benefit

The local government of Mariveles has started implementing the Bataan Healthy School Setting (BHSS) program, with Antonio G. Llamas Elementary School among the first beneficiaries. The initiative aims to improve the overall health, nutrition, and well-being of young learners in the municipality.

Mayor Ace Jello “AJ” Concepcion said the program will directly benefit 8,067 pupils from Grades 1 to 3, ensuring that the youngest learners receive proper health monitoring, nutritious food, and wellness support while in school. He emphasized that strengthening children’s health is vital to their learning development and future success.

“This initiative allows us to focus on the nutrition and health of our young students. We are committed to implementing programs that will serve as the foundation for a healthy and prosperous future for our children,” Concepcion said.

The Bataan Healthy School Setting is a provincial initiative that integrates health, nutrition, and environmental programs within the school system, promoting a holistic approach to child development. In partnership with the Department of Education (DepEd) and local health offices, the program includes nutrition assessment, feeding programs, hygiene campaigns, and safe learning environments for students.

Concepcion reaffirmed Mariveles’ commitment to continue supporting provincial efforts that invest in youth health and education, consistent with the town’s advocacy under the banner “Mariveles Muna, Mariveles Una” — a governance approach prioritizing action and solution for the welfare of Mariveleños.
