Mariveles, southernmost coastal industrial town may metamorphose to an important tourist attraction in the near future, what with World War II memorial sites awaiting to be fully developed.
Mariveles Mayor Ace Jello Concepcion said on Monday that tourist attraction development in his town “is taking place gradually, but surely.” “Mayroon na kaming nakakausap tungkol diyan at tutulungan kami,” he added.
By February 16, Mariveles is commemorating the 81st year of liberation from Japanese occupation. The occasion is held yearly with week-long festivities that include street dancing, parades, concerts and cultural presentation.
The Mariveles tourism committee has been collating useful trivial information on the historic coastal town with emphasis on “first things.”
For example, Mariveles is the first Bataan town to host export processing, formerly named Free Trade Zone.
The mayor said the municipal government had been coordinating with the National Historical Commission for more accurate data on historical accounts and war sites.
