Filipinos can expect more accurate forecasts and timely warnings to protect communities across the country.
This expectation is not too far off following the recent signing of a memorandum of agreement among the Department of Science and Technology, PAGASA, and Bataan Peninsula State University for the establishment of a Doppler Radar Station.
The Doppler station will significantly enhance accuracy of weather forecasts through real-time data enabling local governments to issue timely warning to communities, and plan disaster responses effectively.
DOST-PAGASA Administrator Dr. Nathaniel T. Servando welcomed BPSU officials led by President Ruby Santos Matibag. She said: “Through this significant agreement with our institution we not only strengthen our shared commitment to nation-building but also foster collaboration in research, innovation, and capacity building.”
The Doppler radar station will ensure that lives and welfare of the Filipino people are safeguarded during national disasters, the signatories further declared.
Funding support to the said radar station will come from the Office of the President through the Office of Civil Defense and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council.
