Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III on Tuesday, March 26 joined fellow local chief executives and provincial health officers at the Department of Health’s (DOH) “Wellness and Healthy Aging: Longevity Summit” held at Royce Hotel, signaling renewed efforts to preventive care and promote longer, healthier lives among Filipinos.
The Summit, led by DOH Secretary Teodoro Herbosa, brought together key health leaders to align national and local strategies on longevity, focused on building resilient, people-centered health systems. “We want everyone to live long, active, healthy, and functional lives. This should be the goal of our local health systems—to extend the lives of every citizen in your jurisdiction,” Herbosa said.
Discussions centered on pressing health priorities, including addressing the rise of non-communicable diseases, immunization programs, and ensuring the effective implementation of the government’s zero-balance billing policy in public hospitals.
Participants also highlighted the expansion of key national health initiatives such as PuroKalusugan Program, BUCAS Centers, and the Medical Assistance for Indigent and Financially Incapacitated Patients (MAIFIP), which aim to improve access to essential health services, particularly for underserved communities.
