Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” S. Garcia III vowed to honor the country’s veterans not only through remembrance, but through continued service and development programs.

In his welcome message during the Araw ng Kagitingan rites held on April 9 at the Mt. Samat National Shrine, Gov. Garcia said that the Provincial Government of Bataan continues to honor the legacy of the veterans by pursuing programs that strengthen the economy, improve infrastructure, expand tourism, and enhance health, education, and social services in the province. He said these efforts are part of ensuring that progress is felt by every Bataeño.

Garcia also highlighted the province’s push for sustainable development, citing the continued operation of Bataan’s electric vehicle fleet, the expansion of solar power in public facilities, the development of more charging stations across the province, and the promotion of a meritocracy system for good governance. He said these initiatives reflect Bataan’s goal of becoming a progressive, environmentally responsible, and future-ready province especially amidst the energy crisis in the country.

Meanwhile, President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr., who led the national commemoration at Mt. Samat, called on Filipinos to draw strength from the heroism of World War II veterans and to respond to present-day challenges with compassion, unity, and patriotism.

Also taking part in the program were Japanese Ambassador Endo Kazuya and United States Embassy Chargé d’Affaires Robert Ewing, who both conveyed their respect for the courage, sacrifice, and enduring legacy of Filipino veterans during the World War II. The event marked the 84th anniversary of the Araw ng Kagitingan and carried the theme, “Giting ng Bayani, Pamana sa Salinlahi”.
