More than 4,500 seedlings were planted in Bataan under the Department of Environment and Natural Resources’ (DENR) National Greening Program (NGP) to restore forests, protect ecosystems, and strengthen community resilience. The activity was held in Limay and Pilar in partnership with the Office of the Vice President, Peninsula Electric Cooperative Inc., Philippine National Police, Bureau of Fire Protection, and the National Electrification Administration.
According to DENR Community Environment and Natural Resources Office Dinalupihan Head Marivic Santos, 3,000 seedlings of narra, cashew, and guyabano were planted in a three-hectare site in Limay, while 1,500 seedlings of narra, duhat, and coffee were planted in a two-hectare site in Pilar. The initiative is part of the NGP’s continuing efforts to increase forest cover, conserve biodiversity, and provide livelihood opportunities for locals.
DENR Regional Executive Director Ralph Pablo said the project highlights how collaboration can yield lasting environmental and social benefits. He stressed that tree planting goes beyond putting seedlings in the ground, as it symbolizes a commitment to sustainability, greener communities, and a resilient future for Bataan.
