A total of 720 minimum wage earners in Bataan were able to purchase rice at P20 per kilo as part of a government program aimed at helping workers cope with rising food prices.
Each beneficiary was entitled to buy up to 10 kilos of rice during the recent distribution held at The Bunker at The Capitol in Balanga City. The initiative was led by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) in partnership with the Philippine Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCI)–Bataan led by its President BJ Banzon.
According to Rey Gonzales of PCCI-Bataan, the subsidized rice sale will be conducted once a month, with small business owners required to register their employees who wish to avail of the benefit.
The program supports the administration’s broader effort to make rice more affordable for Filipino families, particularly minimum wage earners, through partnerships with local industries and private groups. This initiative also complements the government’s long-term goal of stabilizing rice supply and prices nationwide.
