‘P37.4M investment for environment’- AboitizPower

The giant power firm AboitizPower is investing P37.4 million for environmental projects in Orani and Morong towns.

The projects, through the twin power firms GMEC and GNPD involve adopting 12 new hectares of land under the Orani Mangrove Experimental Forest. This is in addition to 20 hectares earlier adopted by AboitizPower.

Andrea Millend Madrid, AboitizPower vice president for corporate services, said during the signing of a memorandum of agreement (MOA) in Orani last Monday that the firm committed P24 million over the next seven years for the Orani mangrove preservation project.

For “pawikan” (sea turtle) conservation effort in Morong, the power firm is investing P13.4 million for the next five years. “We want safe journey for the pawikan hatchlings to the seas, kasi VIP din sila,” Madrid quips.

“This seems to be a big amount, but we see this not as an investment but as an accountability to the environment,” Madrid said in a statement.

Madrid thanked the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Bataan Provincial Government and other LGUs, and the volunteers who she said the hearts of the environment program. Provincial Administrator Alice D. Pizarro and Morong Mayor Leila Linao Munoz thanked Aboitiz in return for its support to various environmental projects.
