President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. was visibly impressed during his visit to the Bataan General Hospital and Medical Center (BGHMC) in Balanga City after witnessing a unique system that puts patients and their families first. Instead of making relatives line up to settle or claim hospital bills, staff members personally deliver the documents to them—removing stress at a time when compassion matters most.
Moved by the initiative, the President directed the Department of Health (DOH) to adopt the same approach in all 78 government hospitals nationwide that are implementing the zero-balance billing program. Marcos said this simple but meaningful practice should be a standard in public hospitals, ensuring patients and their families experience not just medical care, but also genuine consideration and ease.
The BGHMC has already made a significant impact, with 2,976 patients benefiting from its zero-balance program. The President underscored that innovations like these reflect the kind of healthcare his administration aims to strengthen—efficient, humane, and centered on the welfare of every Filipino.
