A 30-hectare reforestation project was formally launched in Barangay Duale, Limay, Bataan through a partnership involving Petron Corporation, the Department of Environment and Natural Resources, the Bataan Provincial Government, the local government of Limay, and the farmers’ group SAMASAKA.
The initiative is part of the Punong Buhay Reforestation Program, which aims to rehabilitate upland forests within the Limay Watershed area.
The project officially began with a ceremonial planting activity where 100 narra seedlings were planted at the designated reforestation site in Barangay Duale.
Officials from Petron and partner agencies attended the event, including Petron Vice President for Refinery Division Aluister Go and Petron Limay Terminal Manager Francis Owen Ohata. They were joined by Limay Municipal Mayor Richie Jason David and representatives from the provincial environment office and SAMASAKA.
In his message, Go emphasized the importance of collaboration in protecting the environment, noting that the project reflects Petron’s commitment to environmental stewardship and sustainability. He added that planting trees today will help ensure that future generations inherit a healthier environment.
Mayor David also underscored the significance of the tree-planting activity, describing it as a meaningful step toward protecting nature. He said planting trees symbolizes hope and responsibility in safeguarding natural resources for the community.
Around 90 participants joined the ceremonial planting, including representatives from the Municipal Agriculture Office, the Municipal Environment and Natural Resources Office, and the Community Environment and Natural Resources Office. The activity forms part of Petron’s broader sustainability efforts to reduce its ecological footprint through carbon capture and nature-based environmental solutions.
