Bataan 1st District Rep. Tony Roman III joined fellow lawmakers in a committee hearing of the House Committee on Ways and Means to deliberate on a proposal seeking to unify the tax rate on all heated tobacco and vape products. The measure aims to standardize excise taxes imposed on alternative nicotine products in a bid to simplify the current system and address disparities in taxation.
Rep. Roman said the proposed unified tax rate would help establish a clearer and fairer framework for both consumers and industry players, while preventing possible loopholes that could arise from varying tax classifications. He noted that as the vape industry continues to expand, government regulation must keep pace to ensure accountability and proper compliance among manufacturers and retailers.
Beyond revenue considerations, the Bataan lawmaker emphasized that the measure is anchored on public health protection, particularly for the youth sector. He underscored the importance of coupling tax reforms with stricter enforcement of age restrictions and monitoring of vape sales channels, reaffirming his commitment to advancing policies that directly affect Filipino families and communities under his banner, “Serbisyong May Puso.”
