The Municipality of Orani joined the global observance of World Wetlands Day on Monday, February 2, 2026 through an environmental activity led by the Bataan Provincial Government–Environment and Natural Resources Office (PG-ENRO), the Orani local government, Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU), the Tubo-tubo Fisherfolk Association, and AboitizPower.
The activity formed part of ongoing mangrove protection and rehabilitation efforts in Orani, aimed at strengthening coastal resilience, protecting marine biodiversity, and sustaining the livelihood of local fisherfolk.
Mangroves serve as natural barriers against storm surges and erosion while providing breeding grounds for fish and other marine species.
World Wetlands Day is observed annually to raise awareness on the importance of wetlands to people and the environment, commemorating the signing of the Ramsar Convention in 1971.
Local officials led by Mayor Jon Arizapa and partners emphasized that collective and sustained action is essential to ensure that wetlands remain a lasting legacy for future generations of Orani.
