Roman Superhighway Upgrade Bill boosts Bataan’s push for climate-ready infrastructure

Bataan 3rd District Rep. Gila Garcia announced that House Bill No. 1967—mandating the full conversion and maintenance of the Roman Superhighway as an all-weather road—has been approved by the House Committee on Public Works and Highways. The measure aims to strengthen the province’s main national artery, ensuring safer, more reliable travel despite the growing challenges posed by extreme weather.

Garcia said the proposal is part of a united legislative effort among Bataan lawmakers to modernize and climate-proof the vital highway. It complements House Bill 1081 filed by Rep. Albert “Abet” Garcia and House Bill 3131 filed by Rep. Jett Nisay, forming a synchronized push to future-proof the infrastructure that connects communities and industries throughout the province.

The renewed focus on the Roman Superhighway comes as Bataan positions itself for major economic catalysts—including the Bataan–Cavite Interlink Bridge, expanding industrial operations, port and logistics development, and increasing mobility across Luzon. Officials say a more durable and modern highway will be essential in supporting new investments, smoother trade flow, and stronger regional connectivity.

Garcia thanked her fellow Bataan representatives and committee members for backing the bill, emphasizing that the initiative goes beyond road improvement. She described it as a long-term investment in economic resilience and opportunity—not only for Bataan but for the wider Luzon region. She vowed continued work to shepherd the measure into law in pursuit of a safer, more dependable, and more progressive province.
