The Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) was recognized as the Outstanding Government Agency for Special Economic Zone Management at the Legacy Awards 2025 held at Okada Manila. The award highlights the agency’s role in sustaining livelihoods and generating revenues for both workers and local government units in areas surrounding the Freeport.
SBMA Chairperson and Administrator Eduardo Jose Aliño said the agency remains committed to its mandate of creating jobs and contributing to national growth. He stressed that while the mandate has not changed, the desire to do more for the Filipino people has grown stronger. In 2024, SBMA remitted ₱3.07 billion in dividends to the national government, ranking 7th among the top government-owned and controlled corporations.
The agency also released ₱347 million in revenue shares to seven municipalities and one city adjacent to the Freeport. Ongoing projects include the Subic Bay Residencias, a socialized housing project for Freeport workers, as well as the construction of a dormitory, the introduction of electric vehicles, and continued improvement of facilities inside the zone.
SBMA Senior Deputy Administrator for Support Services Ramon Agregado, who accepted the award on behalf of Aliño, said the recognition serves as a reminder to strengthen services for stakeholders. The Legacy Awards 2025, with the theme “Celebrating Excellence, Resilience, and Social Responsibility,” honored individuals and institutions that drive positive change in their communities.
