Fifty-six solar-powered street lights were formally distributed in the municipality of Hermosa on February 16, 2026, under the TUGON–Solar Spark program, Mayor Anne Inton announced. The units were turned over by the PENELCO, led by Hermosa District Director Joselito Mendoza, to help improve visibility and safety along key roads, especially at night.
Mayor Inton said the installation of the solar lights will significantly enhance public safety, particularly in areas with limited illumination. She emphasized that well-lit streets not only reduce the risk of accidents but also deter criminal activities, contributing to a safer environment for residents and motorists.
The TUGON–Solar Spark program is an initiative aimed at providing sustainable and energy-efficient lighting solutions to local communities. By utilizing solar technology, the project promotes renewable energy use while reducing electricity costs for local governments. The program aligns with broader efforts to modernize infrastructure and strengthen disaster resilience in communities vulnerable to power interruptions.
The mayor also extended her gratitude to the GNPower Mariveles Energy Center for its continued support, along with PENELCO, in advancing development projects in Hermosa. Their partnership, she noted, reflects strong collaboration between the local government and private sector stakeholders in uplifting community welfare.
With the additional solar street lights now set for installation, the local government expressed optimism that the project will further support Hermosa’s development agenda. “Sama-sama sa paglipad ng Hermosa,” Mayor Inton said, reiterating the municipality’s commitment to progress under the banner of #LipadHermosa and #1Bataan.
