In a collaborative effort to bring justice closer to the people, the Provincial Government of Bataan, the 2nd Congressional District Office, and the Department of Justice (DOJ) launched the Katarungan Caravan today, June 26, at the Bataan People’s Center to provide legal advice and services to Bataeños.
Various government agencies such as the DOJ-National Prosecution Service, Public Attorney’s Office, DOJ Action Center, Bureau of Immigration, National Bureau of Investigation, and the Land Registration Authority participated in the event. These agencies offered a wide range of legal and public services, including legal counseling, notarization, representation, assistance with immigration concerns, land registration issues, and NBI clearance processing.
Barangay officials, senior citizens, families of Overseas Filipino Workers, and other members of the community availed the services.
DOJ Undersecretary Margarita Gutierrez explained that the objective of the caravan being launched in different locations within the country is to make legal services more accessible, particularly to those in remote areas. She emphasized that the government is committed to delivering justice equally to all sectors of society.
Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Popoy del Rosario, speaking on behalf of Gov. Joet Garcia, expressed support for the initiative that strengthen the justice system and raise public awareness of legal rights.
In addition to the services provided, participants also took part in a seminar that focused on community-based justice mechanisms and laws addressing harassment and online sexual exploitation. The seminar aimed to educate the public about their rights, promote legal awareness at the grassroots level, and empower individuals especially those in the vulnerable sectors to seek protection and justice through proper legal channels.
