AFAB eyes development of port facilities

The Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan (AFAB) is aiming to develop and manage port facilities in Bataan and this would be achieved if it is given exclusive authority to acquire lands and properties in its reclamation projects.

This concern is provided for in the Senate Bill No. 2822 and House Bill 8001 otherwise known as “The Freeport Area of Bataan Act” which was endorsed to the Central Luzon Regional Development Council (RDC III) during the May 23 meeting of the Sectoral Committee on Economic Development (SCED).

Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia, SCED chairperson, explained that the move is a good opportunity to achieve progress and development not only for Bataan but for the whole region as well. The governor thanked the committee members for supporting the move. Also taken up in the SCED meet was the plan to outline projects for the Regional Tourism Development Plan that would spearhead moves aimed at initiating tourism-related undertakings in the region where a number of prospective tourist attractions remain undeveloped.
