Balanga holds dance tilt for farmers, fishermen

Since May is the month of farmers and fishermen, the City Government of Balanga is preparing a big event for them on May 27– the “Gabi ng Magsasaka at Mangingisda” where some P15,500 is at stake for winners in the dance contest.

The event which will start 5 pm at the Plaza Mayor de Balanga will consist of “Hataw Magsasaka” for farmers and “Himig Mangingisda” for fisherfolks. City Mayor Francis Garcia will lead the distribution of cash assistance to farmers worth P1.5 million and fishing paraphernalia worth P1 million for fishermen. Ms. Nerissa Mateo, Balanga city agriculturist, said there are 696 registered farmers under the registry system for basic sectors in agriculture (RSBSA) in Balanga alone. “Lahat po makakatanggap ng ayuda basta registered at may tanim,” Mateo said.

The dance contest will have cash prizes as follow: champion, P5,000; 2nd place, P4,000; 3rd place, P3,000; 4th place, P2,000; and 5th place, P1,500. Mateo said Mayor Francis had been extending and will continue to extend financial asistance to farmers and fishermen who really need it to improve their means of livelihood.
