Thousands of candidates in the province gathered yesterday at the Capitol Compound in Balanga City to pledge their commitment to clean, honest, peaceful, and orderly elections as part of the Peace Covenant 2023 organized by the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). In his message during the event, Bataan Governor Jose Enrique Garcia III called upon the candidates to focus on their platforms for the betterment of their communities, rather than engaging in the discrediting of their rivals. He also shared the Provincial Government’s thrusts on progress, emphasizing the crucial role that Barangay and Sangguniang Kabataan (SK) officials play in the development of the entire province. Furthermore, the chief local executive commended COMELEC-Bataan, led by Provincial Election Supervisor Atty. Chris Ian Silva, for organizing the event which stands as the sole province-wide Peace Covenant held in the country. Also in attendance were Vice Governor Ma. Cristina Garcia, 1st District Board Member Atty. Antonino Roman, Bataan Police Provincial Office Provincial Director PCol. Palmer Tria, and Philippine Army 69ID 7ID Commanding Officer LTC. Sonny Dungca. The program started with a Unity Walk; signing of the Integrity Pledge towards the end, and a special performance by viral impersonator Taylor Sheesh. The election is scheduled on October 30, with more than 10,000 candidates from the 237 barangays in the province competing.
