Bataan celebrates Filipino Food Month

The Provincial Tourism Office participated today in the nationwide celebration of Filipino Food Month under the theme “Kalutong Filipino, Lakas ng Kabataang Makabago,” by organizing a series of events that showcased the diverse flavors of Filipino food and talents of Bataeños held yesterday, April 24.

Among its activities is the Bataan Food Fair in partnership with the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office (PCEDO) held at the Children’s Park at the Capitol Ground in Balanga City. This fair served as a platform to exhibit the local Filipino delicacies of micro, small, and medium enterprises (MSMEs) in the province.

Simultaneously, a cooking contest was organized at the Microcity College of Business & Technology, where college students showcased their culinary skills with alimango and/or sugpo as their star ingredients. The participants demonstrated their creativity and skills in the kitchen as they created a dish from the said ingredients which are abundant in the province, especially in Orani.

Lastly, the very first KainCon in the province was held at the Lou-is Resort and participated by Tourism and Hospitality Management students to celebrate the cultural significance of Filipino cuisine.

Renowned historian and author, Prof. Jaime Salvador Corpus from Bulacan, served as the guest speaker discussing the rich history of Filipino culinary traditions, emphasizing their role in shaping our current identity and heritage.

Provincial Tourism Officer Danica Tigas-Rodriguez expressed gratitude to all participants, municipal tourism officers, and organizers who contributed to the success of the event and encouraged the participating youth to continue promoting the cultural heritage of Filipino cuisine.

Also present at the said event were Sangguniang Panlalawigan Board Member Popoy Del Rosario and Bagac Tourism Officer Leonardo Herbon.
