Bataan embraces green mobility!

With the aim of achieving sustainability, carbon neutrality, and improving the standard of living of Bataeños, the Provincial Government of Bataan, through its Public-Private Partnership and Investment Center, in partnership with the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), organized the Invest Bataan Electric Vehicle Roadshow: Moving to the Future at the 1Bataan Tourism and Investment Center, Four E-com Center East Tower, MOA Complex, Pasay City, last May 25.

“As we make Bataan the first carbon neutral province in the country, we are also working towards leaving a lasting legacy to the next generations of Bataenos – a clean, healthy, sustainable environment; making Bataan the best place to live, study, work and raise a family,” Vice Governor Cris Garcia said in her message.

The provincial government, aligning with the national government’s Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP), sought the assistance of the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI), an international intergovernmental organization that has been a partner of Bataan since 2017. Their collaboration focuses on conducting a feasibility study for Electric Vehicles and expediting the implementation of transport sector modernization in the Province of Bataan.

“I would like to congratulate the PGB [Provincial Government of Bataan], the Governor, Vice Governor, and all the leaders of Bataan for their persistent dedication to green growth, taking on the legacy of the previous administration as well,” GGGI Country Director Juhern Kim said in his message.

As part of the program, the Provincial Government of Bataan (PGB) and the Global Green Growth Institute (GGGI) signed a memorandum of understanding to establish a framework of cooperation and facilitate collaboration, supporting the 2023 Agenda for sustainable development and the goals of the Paris Climate Agreement.

“To achieve a widespread adoption of EVs in public transport and government fleets, it is crucial to develop a robust charging infrastructure. We understand that Governments and relevant authorities should work together to install charging stations at key locations, such as bus depots and government offices, to ensure convenient access to charging facilities.” PPPIC Head Abul Khayr Alonto II highlighted in his speech.

Harnessing the community’s confidence over the past years, Mrs. Azucena Sugatain, head of the Provincial Cooperative and Enterprise Development Office, shared that they have successfully consolidated 34 cooperatives into 14, in line with the Public Utility Vehicle Modernization Program (PUVMP). As a significant step towards this initiative, six of the consolidated cooperatives have officially expressed their intent to transition to electric vehicles.

During the afternoon session, companies specializing in transport modernization showcased their products and services to the representatives of the transport cooperatives from Bataan.

Newly-appointed AFAB Administrator Mohammed Hussein Pagandaman, DOTR Engr. Jhon Rhandy Cabanes, LTFRB Regional Director Atty. Carl Jemma Marbella, PG-ENRO representative Engr. Aviva Limos, representatives from Bataan Transport Cooperatives, TripKo, and other stakeholders in the modernization of the transport sector, namely Global Electric Transport (GET), E-Sakay, Francisco Motors, Tojo Motors, Journey Tech Inc., Beep, DyipPay, and Standard Insurance, attended the remarkable event.
