The Sangguniang Panlalawigan ng Bataan passed an ordinance, the Bataan Model OFW Family of the Year Award (BMOFYA) to recognize exemplary Overseas Filipino Worker (OFW) families.
Outgoing Board Member Tony Roman, author of the Ordinance, said the award honors families who show strength, unity, and community involvement despite the challenges of overseas work.
Each year, one land-based and one sea-based OFW family will be chosen to represent Bataan in the regional search. Winners will receive a plaque, cash prize, and full provincial support.
“This is a simple but meaningful way to honor our modern-day heroes who bring pride to Bataan across the globe,” Roman said.
The ordinance was approved on Monday, during Roman’s final session as a board member.
He is set to serve as the incoming Representative of Bataan’s First Congressional District.
