After decades of fighting the government to achieve their cause former New People’s Army (NPA) members had come to realize that nothing happened to them other than continuously hiding in the mountain ranges of Bataan.
This is why remnants of insurgents had been surrendering to authorities for good as shown in local police records. Bataan Board Member Popoy del Rosario, chair of Committee on Peace and Order, who recently attended the 3rd Quarter Meeting of Provincial Peace and Order Council (PPOC), Provincial Anti-Drug Abuse Council, and Provincial Task Force in Ending Local Communist Armed Conflict (PTF-ELCAC) personally believes the problem of insurgency in Bataan had been nipped in the bud.
Del Rosario attributed this to improved socio-economic situation in the province and a good job generation atmosphere in Bataan because of the presence of freeport zones.
The PPOC meeting was presided over by Bataan Gov. Joet Garcia, along with Board Member Romeo Austria, Orion Mayor Tonypep Raymundo, Bagac Mayor Ron del Rosario, and representatives of law enforcement agencies.
