This is according to Provincial Veterinarian Dr. Alberto Venturina. He said the Department of Agriculture announced it last November 14. Venturina said Bataan was affected by highly pathogenic avian influenza last March 22 after a backyard mallard duck farm tested for the virus.
Domingo Panganiban, senior undersecretary, Department of Agriculture, declared the province birdflu-free following disease monitoring in the 1-kilometer to 7-kilometer surveillance zones which yielded negative result.
The World Organization for Animal Health provides that avian influenza-free status may be regained after 28 days. More than 40 days had elapsed since clean up operation, disinfection and surveillance has been carried out.
