Gov. Joet Garcia and Vice Governor Cris Garcia spearheaded on Tuesday the planting of mangroves in Puerto Rivas Ibaba, Balanga City for the launching of the Mangrove Adoption and Protection Project.
SM City Bataan Assistant Mall Manager Mark Joriel De Leon joined in leading the planting activity. “We have planted 100 mangrove saplings. Mangrove act as a natural barrier against typhoon and storm surges and provide a habitat for diverse marine life, said Gov. Garcia.
The Sangguniang Panlalawigan led by Vice Gov. Garcia is very supportive to the environmental conservation thrust of the governor. A Memorandum of Agreement for the Balanga Mangrove Adoption and Protection Project was signed among SM City Bataan, local government units of Bataan and Balanga, and DENR in August last year. The initiative aims to enhance the resilience of the local environment and promote biodiversity.
The environmental project launching was also attended by Samahan ng Mangingisda Tinig ng Mandaragat, Bataan board members, and departments heads and employees of Bataan Provincial Government and Balanga City Government. DENR Central Luzon Region 3 Executive Director Kit Moreno and Executive Assistant Glenn Paul Flores also joined.
