Bataan 2nd District Representative Abet Garcia met with officials from the Bataan Public-Private Partnership and Investment Center, the Asian Development Bank (ADB), and the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT) on February 10 to discuss plans to transform the Bataan Nuclear Power Plant (BNPP) into a Data Center and Morong Cyber Town. The meeting was led by DICT Undersecretary David Almirol Jr. and Architect Henry Mayuga.
Discussions focused on the benefits of the proposed project, particularly in strengthening the country’s digital infrastructure and cybersecurity through various cloud services. The project is expected to support the growing need for data centers and enhance digital resilience.
Architect Mayuga presented the Master Plan for Cyber Town Morong, while Bataan First District Representative Gila Garcia highlighted the provision for establishing an ICT Academy under the EGov Bill. This academy could be integrated into the project to enhance digital skills and workforce development.
Bataan Governor Joet Garcia, Hermosa Mayor Jopet Inton, and representatives from the Bataan Public-Private Partnership and Investment Center also attended the meeting. Their participation underscored the local government’s support for the initiative.
The proposed transformation of BNPP aligns with Bataan’s push for technological advancement, aiming to position the province as a hub for digital innovation and investment.
