The Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) ng Bataan presided by Vice Governor Cris Garcia passed an ordinance promoting drug- free workplace in the province of Bataan. The legislation aims to ensure officials and employees of the Provincial Government of Bataan, 12 municipal and city governments, national government agencies, government owned and controlled corporations, state universities and colleges within the territorial jurisdiction of Bataan remain drug-free in order to continuously provide effective and efficient services to the people.
A drug-free workplace committee will be created for the implementation of the ordinance with Gov. Joet Garcia as chairperson. An assessment team will also be formed to assist in the conduct of substance abuse awareness and prevention programs. The team will implement a random selection procedure in order to determine official or employee who should undergo drug testing. The random drug testing will be conducted without any prior notice of the date and venue. Applicants are mandated to undergo drug testing and those who tested positive for drug use will be denied entry into government service. The ordinance states that “Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Acts of 2002” provides that officers and employees of public and private offices will be subjected to undergo random drug test.
