It may not be too far off when the local government units (LGUs) of Bataan would not go that far to dump their garbage to Metro Clark Waste Management Corp. (MCWMC) in Capas, Tarlac and save millions of government funds. That is, if the integrated sanitary landfill to be established in Abucay will push through.
Abucay Mayor Robin Tagle said the ambitious project is still under study. “But the Sangguniang Bayan had been discussing this project although some issues are yet to be resolved,” the mayor pointed out in recent interview.
Tagle said almost all towns in Bataan spend around P1 million a month on garbage disposal. Usually, a municipality churns out 50 tons of garbage in a week or so which are then dumped to MCWMC where waste management facilities utilize state-of-art German technology. “With our integrated sanitary landfill facility, we can save money that could be channeled to local livelihood projects,” the mayor said. He, however, cautioned that the landfill should be handled properly and that it shall be exclusive to Bataan and other local domestic clients. Under the scheme, 50% of the funding shall be shouldered by the investor, 25% by the LGU and 25% by the provincial government.
