Senior high school (SHS) students from across Bataan showcased their English mastery and public speaking skills during the Tourism Speech Competition held last September 16 at the Bataan Tourism Center in Balanga City.
The competition, organized by the Provincial Tourism Office, was part of the celebration of English Competency Week, coinciding with Tourism Month this September.
A distinguished panel of judges, including Mr. Kelvin Rae Rodriguez from the Authority of the Freeport Area of Bataan, Ms. Leslie R. Jorge-Acain, and Ms. Flora D. Canare from Bataan Peninsula State University, evaluated the contestants’ performances.
Ms. Martina Bien G. Mascarina, coached by Ms. Maria Charlot Ann S. Bergatin from Gov. Efren B. Pascual Sr. Orani Integrated School, bested 17 other participants, earning a cash prize of PHP 5,000. Ms. Rhoxanne Jhayde R. Aquino from Lamao National High School secured second place with a prize of PHP 4,000, while Ms. Reizellyn D. Ariza from Bonifacio Camacho National High School placed third, receiving PHP 3,000. The remaining 15 students each received PHP 1,000 as a consolation prize for their participation.
OIC Provincial Tourism Officer Danica Lolita Tigas-Rodriguez expressed her gratitude to the students as well as to their respective coaches and emphasized the role of tourism in promoting peace and mutual understanding.
