Department of Agriculture – Bureau of Agricultural Research (DA BAR) asked Bataan Peninsula State University (BPSU) to lead the crafting of a proposal on the establishment of giant freshwater prawn (ulang) project in Bataan with the participation of at least four SUCs (state universities and colleges).
This came when DA BAR Director Joel H. Lales learned from BPSU Vice President for Research, Extension and Training Services Dr. Hermogenes Paguia during the latter’s recent visit that the university will pilot the implementation of a giant freshwater prawn hatchery project in Bataan, which is relevant with DA agenda.
Paguia said the DA official is happy to know that BPSU has the same platform and vision with DA BAR as far as technology transfer and commercialization is concerned.
DA BAR is bent on engaging in champion commodity of the province and region that will bridge the gaps of poverty and productivity among low income farmers through demand driven and market oriented projects.
Lales said champion commodity in this case, the giant freshwater prawn will definitely augment income of farmers and fishers.
Paguia said Lales assured to accommodate on its priority programs under ACEP grants the proposal to be crafted by BPSU.
