The Provincial Government of Bataan through the Department of Agriculture may opt to allow entry of piglets from neighboring provinces but subject to laboratory testing and complete permits.
This was disclosed recently by Dr. Alberto Venturina, Bataan provincial veterinarian, who said: “As much as possible local sourcing sana pero wala nang piglets dito sa province.”
The local DA had been undertaking piglets dispersal program in different municipalities to solve the problem of shortage of pork in the province.
Venturina said 150 heads of sentinel pigs, nine bags of feeds plus vitamins, antibiotic and dewormers are set for distribution in the towns of Dinalupihan, Hermosa, Samal, and Abucay.
The shortage of supply of pork was triggered by the African swine fever menace that hit the country in mid-2019 when thousands of pigs were culled to arrest the spread of ASF virus.
