Anchored on the theme “Masaganang Kabuhayan tungo sa Malayang Kabataan”, the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE), in collaboration with the Public Employment Service Office (PESO) Bataan, granted livelihood packages to parents of child laborers on December 28, 2023, at the Bataan People’s Center. Valued at Php 1.5 million pesos, these livelihood packages encompass snack vending, rice retailing, and frozen goods.
These strategic interventions by the aforementioned government agencies aim to prevent and even eradicate child labor. Furthermore, the initiative seeks to empower parents of child laborers by establishing sustainable income sources, thereby lessening their dependence on their children’s labor.
This program ensures that children have the opportunity to attend school and receive an education, instead of being compelled to work to support their family’s basic needs. Seventy-five (75) parents from Bataan, identified by these agencies, are the recipients of these livelihood packages. In conjunction with these packages, school supplies were also provided through various benefactors supporting DOLE-PESO’s Project Angel Tree. This project’s objective is to furnish social services such as assistance in food, education, and livelihood training.
