In support of Balanga City’s agriculture sector, the Sangguniang Panlungsod (city council) recently passed an ordinance declaring Friday as Balanga Kadiwa Market Day.
Nerissa Mateo, chief of Balanga City agriculture office, said the city government realized that the Kadiwa market day held every Friday right at the lobby of city hall has been successful since it has been drawing clients mostly housewives and government employees who need not hie off to the public market to buy fruits and vegetables.
“They can buy vegetables or just any kind of fruit at the city hall lobby at lower prices,” said Mateo. She explained that the local farmers would no longer pay for mayor’s permit, napo-promote pa nang husto ang pagtatanim sa bakanteng lote sa mga bahay-bahay nila.”
At present, there are 1,256 farmers in Balanga who are beneficiaries of government assistance in the form of farm implements and loans through the Department of Agriculture. Local farmers can easily dispose their farm products through the Kadiwa rolling stores which are available in barangays.
As a token of appreciation the DA regional office has extended financial assistance worth P3 million to Kadiwa Rolling Store project of the city government for which City Mayor Francis Garcia expressed his gratitude.
