GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. (GMEC) and GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD) hosted their 2024 P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. Stakeholders’ Convergence at Emiliana Hall in Tenejero, Balanga City on June 25, 2024, reinforcing their dedication to community development and environmental sustainability.
The event, themed “Empowering the Future, Redefining Progress,” saw nearly 200 participants, including government officials, community leaders, and representatives from partner organizations, coming together to discuss and collaborate on various initiatives.
The P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. program, an acronym for Protect marine life, Reforest land, Optimize wealth from waste, Generate livelihood skills and income, Rehabilitate social infrastructure, Elevate educational opportunities, Safeguard quality health access, and Strengthen disaster resiliency, serves as the flagship Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) project for GMEC and GNPD. This initiative aims to foster positive change, shared value, and sustainable development within the communities they serve. A budget of nearly 80 million pesos supports the P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. initiatives, with 44% designated for signing Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs) with various stakeholders to ensure long-term sustainability and maximize impact. The remaining funds are allocated to ongoing programs, disaster relief, scholarships, and sponsorships.
The event was graced by Bataan Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia, who met briefly with GMEC and GNPD executives before the official program commenced. GMEC–GNPD COO Emmanuel Lopez emphasized the importance of the partnerships and connections formed through this Stakeholders’ Convergence in his welcome remarks. He expressed gratitude towards the stakeholders for their contributions and highlighted the commitment of GMEC and GNPD to building a prosperous and sustainable future through inclusive CSR programs.
Other notable attendees included AboitizPower executives, local government officials, and representatives from various educational and environmental organizations. The event featured a keynote address by Arcel Madrid, GMEC-GNPD AVP for Community Relations, titled “P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. Reimagined,” which underscored the responsibility of being the largest power plant in the country. Madrid emphasized that P.R.O.G.R.E.S.S. is about more than social responsibility; it’s about redefining the role of an energy provider.
The event concluded with a symbolic “Tree of Progress” presentation, a Pledge of Sustainability, and a press conference where key executives and government officials discussed the importance of the partnerships and addressed questions from the media.
