Twin power plants GNPower Dinginin Ltd. Co. (GNPD) and GNPower Mariveles Energy Center Ltd. Co. (GMEC) provided assistance to a tricycle operators and drivers association in Mariveles.
The power generator companies gave gasoline fuel assistance and reflective stickers to 70 members of Barangay Alas-Asin Tricycle Operators and Drivers Association (TODA) during a program held at Barangay Alas-Asin Covered Court on August 8. The drivers were also trained on defensive driving, said Raymund Tamayo of GMEC Community Relation Department. The training was conducted by Safety Inspectors Edgardo Cruz of GNPD and John Zint Cruz of GMEC.
The companies’ Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) program called TODA Max aims to promote responsible road behavior among tricycle drivers; improve their defensive driving skills; and provide them with assistance like fuel subsidy and reflective stickers. Tamayo said the CSR program was launched when company employees noticed that tricycles plying at night lacked the necessary reflectors. The tricycles were operating hazardously and endangering the lives of passengers and even their own.
GNPD Plant Manager Anton Besaris reiterated to tricycle drivers the importance of road safety. “We noticed a lot of you plying at night have no reflective stickers and that gave us the idea to initiate the program”, he said.
For his part, GMEC and GNPD AVP for Community Relations Arcel Madrid said, “Bilang mga taga-Alas-Asin, iisa lamang po ang kalsada na dinadaanan natin. Hangarin po ng aming kumpanya na maging safe ang ating mga TODA drivers, ang mga pasahero kasama na riyan ang aming mga empleyado at pamilya”.
