Bataan Governor Jose Enrique “Joet” Garcia III has reaffirmed the Provincial Government’s commitment to combating child malnutrition by strengthening the Healthy Paaralan initiative, a flagship nutrition and education program that provides free, nutritious lunches to public school students from Kindergarten to Grade 3.
In line with this year’s celebration of Nutrition Month, Governor Garcia emphasized the importance of ensuring that young Bataeños receive proper nourishment during their formative years. “Isa po sa patuloy na isinusulong ng Pamahalaang Panlalawigan ng Bataan ay ang pagkakaroon ng sapat at masustansyang pagkain para sa lahat,” Garcia said in an official statement posted online. He added that the goal is to help children grow up healthy and strong, laying the foundation for a better future.
The Healthy Paaralan program, launched during Garcia’s term as Bataan’s 2nd District Representative and now expanded under his governorship, forms part of Bataan’s integrated nutrition and education agenda. In collaboration with the Department of Education (DepEd), local government units, and school administrators, the program ensures that freshly prepared, nutrient-rich meals are served daily to young learners in public schools, especially in low-income communities.
The initiative also aligns with the provincial government’s broader vision of #1Bataan—a holistic approach to sustainable development where education, health, and welfare programs work hand in hand. As part of the Nutrition Month activities this July, the provincial government is conducting school visits, health assessments, and community awareness drives to promote proper dietary habits and long-term wellness.
Governor Garcia is calling on parents, educators, and the private sector to actively support ongoing efforts in advancing child nutrition in the province. “Magsama-sama po tayo sa patuloy na pagtataguyod ng tamang nutrisyon para sa masigla at masustansyang kinabukasan,” he said, urging collective action toward a healthier generation of Bataeños.
With over 15,000 beneficiaries across Bataan, Healthy Paaralan continues to be a model for inclusive, pro-child governance—an example other provinces are beginning to follow
