Hermosa Elementary School (HES) proved the brilliance and journalistic prowess of its young writers as it emerged as the Overall Champion in the Hermosa District Schools Press Conference (DSPC), elementary division. The event showcased the exceptional talent of Hermoseño students, solidifying HES’ reputation as a breeding ground for outstanding campus journalists.

Among the standout achievers was Mary Sabine Takata, named 2nd Most Outstanding Campus Journalist, while John Rafael Gaza and Christian Liam Leaño took top honors in Editorial Writing (Filipino) and News Writing (English), respectively. HES also dominated the Editorial Cartooning categories, with Reilyn Ashley Castillo and Sophia Marie Esparza both clinching first place. Guided by their dedicated mentors, these students brought pride and honor to their school.

The students excelled across multiple categories, securing numerous top-three finishes in Science and Technology Writing, Copyreading & Headline Writing, Sportswriting, and Column Writing in both Filipino and English. In the highly competitive Scriptwriting and Radio Broadcasting contests, HES’ Filipino team not only claimed the first-place trophy but also swept special awards, including Best Script, Best News Presenter, and Best News Anchor.

Principal Rosario Canlas lauded the collaborative efforts of the students and their coaches, emphasizing the role of their mentors in honing the skills of the campus journalists. “This victory is a testament to the determination and talent of our students and teachers. It’s not just about winning, but about empowering the youth to uphold freedom of expression through responsible journalism,” Canlas said.

Hermosa Mayor Jopet Inton also expressed his congratulations, reaffirming his support for initiatives that foster excellence in education and journalism. The success of HES reflects not only their hard work but also the community’s commitment to nurturing young talents. With eyes set on future competitions, the school continues to train its students to uphold the highest standards of campus journalism.
