Japanese firm Sanyo Denki Philippines, Inc. inaugurated its P2.3-billion phase 4 expansion project at the Subic Techno Park, requiring an additional 1,500 workers for manufacturing UPS, cooling fans, servo amplifiers, and stepping motors.

The project includes the construction of a fourth factory building, as stated by Subic Bay Metropolitan Authority (SBMA) Chairman and Administrator Eduardo Jose L. Aliño. During the blessing and inauguration ceremony, attended by SBMA officials and company executives, Sanyo Denki Philippines, Inc. Chairman Chihiro Nakayama expressed gratitude to SBMA for its support, highlighting Subic Bay Freeport as the second home of Sanyo Denki, with its parent company located in Tokyo, Japan. Sanyo Denki Philippines, Inc., established in 2000, currently operates three factory buildings and a technology center.

With a workforce of 4,851 employees as of December 2023, the company manufactures and repairs electric machinery, appliances, computer wares, and electronic materials, contributing significantly to the local economy. In the first quarter of 2021, Sanyo Denki emerged as the top Subic locator in export value, accounting for nearly 25 percent of total exports from Subic, with an FOB value of $79.5 million. Despite the challenges posed by the Covid-19 pandemic, the company continued operations under enhanced community quarantine conditions, manufacturing cooling fans for ventilators used in Covid-19 treatment.

The expansion project signifies Sanyo Denki’s commitment to its presence in Subic Bay Freeport, contributing to the region’s economic growth and providing employment opportunities for the local community.
