LGU Pilar honors young swimmers

The municipal government of Pilar, led by Mayor Charlie Pizarro, honored two young swimmers who brought pride to their town in the 15th Singapore Island Country Club (SICC) tournament held last August 26 and 27, 2023.

Vice Mayor Ces Garcia and the members of the Sangguniang Bayan awarded plaques of recognition to Daenerys Gwen Villanueva and Merraiah Cszandra Aguilar of Barangay Del Rosario, who both won medals in the prestigious swimming competition. Villanueva bagged two golds and one bronze medals in the girls’ 10-11 years old category, while Aguilar clinched three golds and one silver medals in the girls’ 10-11 years old category. They were part of the 60-man swimming team from Swim League Philippines that scooped up 143 medals — 53 golds, 59 silvers, and 32 bronzes in the recently concluded 15th SICC Junior Swimming Championships held at the Singapore Island Country Club in Lion City.

The awarding ceremony was held on September 11, 2023 at the municipal hall grounds of Pilar. Vice Mayor Garcia said that the recognition was not only a way of acknowledging the efforts and achievements of the young athletes, but also a way of inspiring other youth to pursue their dreams in sports.
