Preparations are now afoot for the holding of Palis Lasa Festival, according to Genel Liwanag Llanes Real, tourism officer of Abucay. In his recent social media post, Genel expressed gratitude to Abucay Mayor Erik Martel, wife Beth, and barangay officials for their support to the project.

Palis Lasa Festival is an annual celebration among Barangay Mabatang residents to promote lasa, a major component in “walis tambo” making, an important cottage industry in the populous village. The said broom making industry has gained popularity for its good quality.

The brooms, made by Mabatang folks are sold to different outlets in the region as well as in Metro Manila and Baguio City.
