The municipality of Mariveles emerged as the primary contributor to the economic growth of Bataan in 2024, according to the latest report on competitiveness and revenue across towns and cities in the province. The provincial government reported that Bataan’s total revenue reached PHP 5.5 billion, with Mariveles contributing a significant PHP 1.24 billion, making it the top earner in the province.
The report placed the City of Balanga in second, contributing PHP 1.13 billion to the province’s overall revenue. Following Balanga were the towns of Limay with PHP 623 million, Dinalupihan with PHP 453 million, and Hermosa with PHP 448 million.
Mariveles’ success is attributed to its robust local economy, driven by continued investments and economic initiatives by the local government. Known for its strategic location, Mariveles is home to several industrial zones and the Freeport Area of Bataan (FAB), which houses multiple export-oriented businesses and manufacturing firms. This industrial activity has significantly boosted the town’s revenue over the years.
The local government’s proactive policies and infrastructure development projects have created an investor-friendly environment, attracting both domestic and international businesses. These efforts have not only solidified Mariveles’ position as the top economic driver in the province but are also expected to strengthen its lead in the coming years.
“The growth we are seeing is a testament to the hard work and vision of the local government and the business community. Mariveles is becoming a model for economic development not only in Bataan but across the region,” said an official from the municipal government.
With Mariveles at the forefront, the provincial economy of Bataan continues to experience steady growth. The strong revenue figures from other municipalities such as Balanga, Limay, Dinalupihan, and Hermosa also reflect the collective effort of the entire province to foster economic development.
As Bataan moves forward, local officials remain optimistic about sustaining this momentum, with further investments in infrastructure, tourism, and industrial growth on the horizon.
The competitiveness and revenue report is part of a larger effort by the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to monitor and boost the economic capabilities of local government units across the Philippines.
