Mariveles receives 2024 Gawad KALASAG award

The Municipality of Mariveles has been recognized as Fully Compliant under the prestigious 2024 Gawad KALASAG Seal for Local Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Councils and Offices.

This distinction highlights Mariveles’ excellence and preparedness in disaster risk reduction and management (DRRM).

Mayor Ace Jello Concepcion announced the achievement with pride, crediting the collaborative efforts of the local government, the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (MDRRMC), and the leadership of Engr. Marcelo Serrano, head of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (MDRRMO).

“This recognition is a testament to our bayanihan spirit, shared by the Local Government Unit, the Sangguniang Bayan led by Vice Mayor Lito Rubia, and the entire community,” Mayor Concepcion said. “It is an honor for Mariveles to continue serving as a model for safety and disaster preparedness in the region.”

The Gawad KALASAG Seal, awarded by the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (NDRRMC), is the country’s highest recognition for excellence in DRRM. A Fully Compliant designation means that Mariveles has met rigorous standards in disaster preparedness, mitigation, response, and recovery, ensuring the safety and resilience of its citizens during emergencies.

This milestone reflects Mariveles’ proactive measures, including comprehensive disaster response plans, effective coordination among stakeholders, and sustained community engagement in disaster readiness. As Mariveles continues to rise as a model municipality for disaster resilience, the local government encourages residents to remain vigilant and cooperative in all DRRM initiatives.

“This is not just our achievement—it is for every Mariveleño. Together, we make Mariveles a safe and resilient home for all,” Mayor Concepcion concluded.

The recognition serves as a reminder of Mariveles’ unwavering commitment to building a disaster-resilient community, setting an example for other localities nationwide.
