More local entrepreneurs are lured into joining two-times-year “Diskwento Caravan” because of good venue – the Plaza Mayor de Ciudad de Balanga as well as the good publicity they get through the local media.
This was how Teresita Estiebar Magtanong, information officer of Department of Trade and Industry Bataan, assessed the annual DTI-initiated event. Asked why local business establishments continue to join the caravan, Ms. Magtanong said, “Kumikita naman po sila kasi bukod sa libre, maganda ang puwesto, at natutulungan din po ng media through positive publicity.”
The “Diskwento Caravan” showcases locally-made bags, t-shirts, shoes, caps, pants, school uniforms, belts, dresses, fruits and vegetables, peanut butter, cookies, dried fish, among others. Ms. Eileen Ocampo, DTI provincial director, expressed her profound gratitude to local officials of Balanga City led by Mayor Francis Garcia and the Sangguniang Panlungsod members for their utmost support to the “caravan.”
The DTI event is held every pre-school opening month and every November just in time for pre-Christmas shopping spree. All items are sold at 10 percent discount. It has been drawing “loyal” local clients– government employees, private individuals and students.
